Daily life in Rome is just enjoyable. I used to live for vacations. Now, while I still love travelling, it’s not all I look forward to. I enjoy my morning coffee and “cornetto” at the bar, the beautiful walk home, an aperitivo with friends, and having so many things to do at night or in the weekends.
Should I go to one of Rome’s beautiful parks, for a walk in the city center, a museum, the movies, my favorite bar, a restaurant for a good meal, or maybe just linger over an aperitif? Perhaps I should take a day trip somewhere near.
Rome is inundated with history and art, has so much green space with several large parks, and various events happening at any given time. Beyond that, there are so many beautiful places to explore in Lazio, the province of Rome, or even the neighboring provinces which are within a two-hour ride. Beyond even that, Italy has so many wonderful regions to visit, each one being different from the other with its own treasure to discover. There are so many options, the only problem is finding the time to see it all.

The people also make this city special. People here are friendly and kind, passionate and loving, beautiful and always well-dressed. Besides, in Rome there is a great mix of people from the local chatty, fun, and always up for a chuckle Romans, to the many exorbitantly passionate and hospitable Southern Italians that have come to the capital looking for work that they couldn’t find back home, and all the rather enthusiastic and adventurous foreigners and expats that have come to Italy looking for something different. I’ve met some amazing people and a few not so amazing. Each one of them has taught me something that I will forever carry with me.
Here, it’s easy to have some good conversation with people, as people are open and always willing to share their opinions. I’ve made some close friends, much more easily than in the States I must say. I’ve befriended many of my students because of how warm and hospitable they are. For instance, going to an Italian’s home for a lesson, I’m usually greeted with a warm welcome as if I were a guest, not a cold professional greeting. I’m usually offered something to drink, from some simple water, coffee, tea, juice, or a snack, such as a baked good they had prepared earlier. I’ve even been invited to stay for dinner after the lesson. When in the US would that happen?
Finally, of course is the food. I can’t talk about any place in Italy and not talk about the food. Rome in particular not only has its famous typical Roman dishes, but being the capital and the largest city in Italy, you can also find various national specialties from around the boot and its two main islands.
So, yes it’s fortunate to be living in one of the most beautiful countries and one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
