To travel or not to travel…

To travel or not to travel…to share or not to share…

During Lockdown, I wondered if we’d be able to travel this summer or even go to the beach. As soon as borders opened up, I realized the only place I wanted to travel to this year was actually Italy, more specifically the beautiful island of Sicily! Not only did I not have a strong desire to leave the country that I felt handled the pandemic well but I also wanted to give back to its economy – a fragile one that suffered greatly from 2.5 months of Lockdown and a whole season of no tourism, something they heavily rely on especially during the summer.

At the beginning of the trip, I debated whether to share my photos or keep my travels a secret. In the end, I figured we’ve earned it after having spent 10 weeks in real quarantine not being allowed to leave the house other than for groceries and even that we were asked to keep to the bare minimum.

I do feel somewhat guilty for traveling when I know some countries are still suffering and people are still staying home even in the US. But I know that while I was stuck home, seeing photos of travel destinations motivated me to keep my spirits up and look forward to freedom and traveling again.

I hope this does the same for at least a few people that haven’t been able to wander off yet and that it motivates people to keep taking precautions and being safe.

Yes, the numbers in Italy are going back up enough to cause alarm but mostly because we’ve opened up the borders. We’re no longer the problem. Either way, I know I’m being careful and if we end up being stuck home again, which I’m mentally prepared for, at least I had a good summer.
